Girl Scouts of Northeastern NY Weekend Getaways!
The Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York is sponsoring "Lake Placid Weekend Getaways" open to all girls in grades 5-12 January 23-25 and January 30 - February 1. The weekend is filled with fun activities and you don't have to be a Girl Scout to attend. Call 489-8110 to register. Grab a girlfriend and spend the weekend in the Olympic Village!
QHS Singers Selected for State and National Choruses
QHS singers Elizabeth Houston, Allison Smith, Tim Doak and Madison Kircher are participating in the NYS School Music Association sponsored Mixed and Women’s All-State Choruses this weekend in Rochester, NY. Over 6000 sophomores and juniors auditioned for the state ensembles last spring at NYSSMA solo festivals around the state. Our singers all received A+ ratings on solos in the most difficult level 6 category. Libby, Allie and Tim are singing with 300 other students in the Mixed Chorus and Madison is performing with the 200 voice Women’s Chorus. They will spend approximately 9 hours a day in rehearsals and present public concerts at the famous Eastman Theatre on Saturday night and Sunday morning, December 6 and 7, 2008.
In March, 2009 the Music Educators National Conference Eastern Division takes place in Providence, RI. This event encompasses the 12 northeastern United States and takes place every other year. Students have only one chance to participate at the national level and their acceptance is based on their previous springs NYSSMA solo audition. Congratulations to Elizabeth Houston and Madison Kircher on their acceptance to the All-Eastern Chorus. They are two of approximately 60 singers representing New York State at the MENC Eastern Conference.
