Reading Strategies

      When the students come to Reading Improvement class,

they will be working on using a variety of reading strategies

to improve decoding and comprehension.  Please encourage

your child to practice the following strategies while reading

at home.  This will enable them to become more efficient

and independent readers. 

 

 

1.  Use your pointing finger.
2.  Look at the picture for clues.
3.  Does it make sense?
4.  Get your mouth ready for the first sound.
5.  Go back and get a running start.
6.  Look at the ending sound.
7.  Does it have an ending?

8.  Look for a little word in a big word.

9.  Look for chunks you know.
