Art Course Offerings:

Studio in Art
An introduction to fundamentals, elements and principles of art. Multiple media and techniques are explored. Required course for an Art sequence and serves as a prerequisite art course.

Drawing I
Real life and conceptual drawing extending drawing skills. Attention is given to accurate sketching of objects in space and the figure.

Drawing II
Use of a variety of media and drawing surfaces to explore and express mood, culture, composition, self-expression and personal style.
Prerequisite: Studio in Art, Drawing I |

Painting
Basic skills in control and manipulation of paint. Introduction of brushwork, color mixing, composition, and interpretation.
Prerequisite: Studio in Art, Drawing I |

Watercolor
Exploration of watercolor techniques through landscapes, still life and figure studies.

Color & Design
A study of color, form and composition learning about the principles of color through various exercies and media.

Sculpture I
3D design is explored through various media. Hand tools, found objects, and sculputre mediums are explored and linked to artists and history.

Sculpture II
Advanced 3D design is explored through more contemporary sculpture artists and various sculpture mediums.
Prerequisite: Studio in Art, Sculpture II |

Pottery I
A basic ceramic course learning the fundamentals of clay - both useful and artistic vessels. Hand building, wheel work and glazing will be covered.
No Prerequisite.

Pottery II
More advanced wheel pottery, clay designs, decorations and ceramic techniques will be explored.

Jewelry
Use of a variety of jewelry mediums will be explored with links to traditional and contemporary jewelry techniques.

Photo I
Basic black & white photography and darkroom techniques will be covered. Topics include still life, portraiture, landscape and photo illustration

Photo II
Advanced course in photographic techniques including filters, darkroom techniques, film manipulation and digital photography.
Prerequisite: Photo I |

Graphic Arts
A study in varied graphic processes including printmaking, illustration, logo design and design theory.
Prerequisite: Studio in Art |

Electronic Media
A computer based graphic design course exploring design and digital image manipulation. Photographic and layout software will be used to create final designs.
Perequisite: Studio in Art, Drawing I, Painting or Graphic Arts. |

Advanced Art
Provides an opportunity to develop an art portfolio that represents their style and work as they apply for college or employment. Self initiated ideas are stressed.
Prerequisite: Studio in Art and 2 additional art credits |

Advanced Study in Art
Independent course work designed to fulfill the needs of art students who have taken all QHS scheduled art courses and wish to pursue additional studies and focus on a specific art movement, style or medium. |
