Queensbury Spirit shines this season as we live the mission
Thank you to all of the students and staff members at QUFSD who have worked hard to make this holiday season a little easier on some needy Queensbury families. We also thank the parents and community members who supported our students’ participation in these efforts. Here are just a few examples of the generosity and compassion that abounds at Queensbury: QHS Staff raised $400 through a casual day to help five families, the QMS Adopt-a-Family program raised $1,200 that was used to provide nine families with clothing, the QMS Student Council and Global Differences program teamed up to collect over 90 boxes of food and purchase 18 turkeys that will be distributed among 18 families, the Transportation Department adopted a few of our homeless students and provided much needed support, the District Technology Office made a $280 donation to Operation Santa Claus, a WHBI classroom collected 80 toys for the Toys for Tots program, and the QES Adopt-a-Family project supports several families. Congratulations to the QUFSD family for living the District Mission to “Contribute to the Global Community” – together we can make a difference. .

Rachel's Challenge Program for Non-Violence
Queensbury UFSD would like to invite you to an evening presentation of
RACHEL’S CHALLENGE, a non-violence school program on Monday,
December 15th at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. Come hear an
incredible story of courage and hope!
Rachel Scott was the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 10,
1999. Rachel’s acts of kindness and compassion coupled with the contents of
her six diaries have become the foundation for the most life-changing school
program in America. She left behind an amazing legacy and a simple challenge
for all of us – treat others with kindness and we just may change the world!
Throughout the day on the 15th, students in grades 7 through 12 will attend a
one-hour assembly with audio/video footage of Rachel's Challenge that will
hold them spell-bound and motivate them toward positive change in the way
they treat others. That evening the Rachel’s Challenge presenter will conduct an
additional powerful one-hour session for parents and community leaders.
We are very excited to share this program with you. The secondary
administration and counseling team have attended the program as guests of
Hudson Falls and feel that Rachel’s Challenge is an age-appropriate event that
supports our district’s core values. For more information on the program, we
encourage you to go to the website: www.rachelschallenge.com.
We hope to see you on the 15th!
QHS Singers Selected for State and National Choruses
QHS singers Elizabeth Houston, Allison Smith, Tim Doak and Madison Kircher are participating in the NYS School Music Association sponsored Mixed and Women’s All-State Choruses this weekend in Rochester, NY. Over 6000 sophomores and juniors auditioned for the state ensembles last spring at NYSSMA solo festivals around the state. Our singers all received A+ ratings on solos in the most difficult level 6 category. Libby, Allie and Tim are singing with 300 other students in the Mixed Chorus and Madison is performing with the 200 voice Women’s Chorus. They will spend approximately 9 hours a day in rehearsals and present public concerts at the famous Eastman Theatre on Saturday night and Sunday morning, December 6 and 7, 2008.
In March, 2009 the Music Educators National Conference Eastern Division takes place in Providence, RI. This event encompasses the 12 northeastern United States and takes place every other year. Students have only one chance to participate at the national level and their acceptance is based on their previous springs NYSSMA solo audition. Congratulations to Elizabeth Houston and Madison Kircher on their acceptance to the All-Eastern Chorus. They are two of approximately 60 singers representing New York State at the MENC Eastern Conference.
