ACCOUNTING

Accounting I provides an overview of rules and procedures of accounting for profit-making businesses.  It will prepare the students to keep accurate financial records in order to make wise business decisions.  This course will also offe student the chance to explore careers in accounting and related fields.

Recommended Grade Level:  10-12


BUSINESS LAW

Business Law provides students with a basic understanding of civil and criminal law.  This course will cover areas such as the legal status of a minor, basic rights and responsibilties, current events, courts proceedings and decisions. Students will also learn about their rights when signing a contract, buying a car and renting an apartmen, getting married and divorced..

Recommended Grade Level:  11-12




CAREER EXPLORATION INTERNSHIP


Also known as "CEIP".  This is a non-paid, 1/2 credit internship with 2 different placements which provides students with a link between school and work.  Students are offered the opportunity to explore 2 career options of their choice and acquire invaluable information about their career interests.  Transportation required.

Recommended Grade Level:  11-12

COMPUTER APPLICATION I

This course will introduce students to the 'touch' technique of typing, in which they will type 25 words per minute without looking at their hands.  Students will also develop stronger reading and listening skills while learning how to format letters, memorandums, outlines and research papers.  Students will also learn how to plan and prepare a spreadsheet, design a pie and bar graph and how to effectively integrate these software applications.

Recommended Grade Level:  9-12

COMPUTER APPLICATION II

PREREQUISITE:    Computer Applications I

Students will be briefly re-introduced to the 'touch' method of typing and attain a typing speed of 25 words per minute.  Students will become more proficient in applications of MS Word, MS Excel.  The use of a digital camera will be integrated into these programs as well as into programs such as: MS PowerPoint and MS Publisher.  This course will provide students with the latest computer applications essential for college and the workplace.

Recommended Grade Level:  9-12


CAREER AND PERSONAL FINANCE
This half-year course is the basic requirement for beginning an 3 or 5 unit business sequence.  Students will be introduced to basic business concepts as well as explore careers related to business, marketing and financial occupations.  Students will also design their own resume' and examine the skills necessary for the working world.  A state proficiency examination is taken in January and/or June.

PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING

This full year couse offers an introduction to marketing and its role in our society.  You will explore such specialized areas such as advertising, personal selling, product development, physical distribution, pricing, marketing research and surveys.  Principles of Marketing is a recommended course if you are considering a career in the field of marketing.
