Dr. Jack V. Irion Media Center

All of our children have access to the elementary media center. Every class comes to the media center once during the six day schedule. Each child has the opportunity to learn to use resources and to check out books. Children are encouraged to look upon the experience as part of their lifelong journey of learning. The fundamentals of library usage are laid in these early years of school. A love and appreciation for literature is carefully nurtured here, as well as the care and respect for media center materials. Each child’s library card is stored in the media center to be passed on to the next building after third grade. Children learn to use the automated card catalog for book selection and to check out books for their own use.
The media center has offered a variety of programs over the years to enrich learning, including holiday readings utilizing the talents of our retired teachers.
The media center has a very active and faithful volunteer program. Both fathers and mothers come in on a daily basis to assist in many ways from decorating to preparing magazines for circulation. The volunteers are instrumental in helping the library run smoothly. The media center is home to many mentors and English as a second language program.
Our media center is committed to opening windows of opportunity for children to see knowledge as the means for achieving success in life.
Dedication Ceremony:
On Saturday April 2nd 2005, a dedication ceremony was held in honor of former Queensbury Union Free School District Superintendent of schools Dr. Jack V. Irion.
