Searching the Web

Library Databases -- 39 databases of reliable, in-depth, and current information. Always the best place to start for quality resources. You will need to log in with your regular user name and password.  Add " @qsbyin " to your user name.

Google  All the Web -- Good news search. Altavista -- Good image search. Yahoo!
Librarians' Index to the Internet -- Quality web sites. Internet Public Library  Not a search engine, but a wealth of information and resources brought together and intelligently organized. World Wide Web Virtual Library -- A good first stop. BUBL Link -- "Selected Internet resources covering all academic subject areas."  Very good.
Google Scholar  -- "Scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from all broad areas of research." Voice of the Shuttle -- "A structured and briefly annotated guide to online resources that at once respects the established humanities disciplines ... as they interact with the sciences and social sciences and with new digital media." Academic Info -- "An online subject directory of over 25,000 hand-picked educational resources for high school and college students." Infomine -- "Scholarly Internet Resource Collections."  From the University of California.
Ask a Librarian -- An online reference service from the Library of Congress. Infography -- "Integrates citations to books, Internet sites, journal articles, and other sources that provide excellent information." About.com -- A collection of Internet "guides" of varying quality compiled by people of varying expertise.  Very handy and often excellent, but be aware of the author's bias when researching controversial topics. Internet Archive -- "A digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form."
Alexa.com -- Type in a url to find out more about a web site.
