Extra Credit !!

At the end of each quarter students almost always ask me... "Do you give extra credit?"  my answer........"sometimes"  This may be the only extra credit opportunity for this quarter so you may want to take advantage of it. 

Research opportunity -- Find out whether any wildlife populations in your area are being monitored by national, state, or local agencies.

To get 10 extra credit points you must:

1.  Present you findings to the class in a quick but informative 3-5 minute presentation that summarizes what you have found.

2.  Submit a publication (some document that shows where you found your information) to me from a newspaper, the internet, journal, etc.  that includes the research information you were looking for.     

3.  Have completed by Friday, September 22nd

The following Investigation was performed through the

Leaf Pack Network

  • Stream analysis of English Brook and Coolidge Hill Road Brook.  Students will study and classify macroinvertibrates using pictures and keys. 
  • Chapter #3 Vocabulary (Crossword Puzzle)

  • Day two of investigation -- Students will analyze data from day 1.  Using data tables and pollution tolerance values from the Leaf Pack Network. 

INVESTIGATION RESULTS ARE IN

Students from period 1 and 3 found the water quality of English Brook to be in excellent condition (3.2 from the Biotic Index Calculation Worksheet) English Brook runs into the south-west end of Lake George near Mario's Restaurant in the northern portion of the village of Lake George.

Students from periods 6,7, and 8 found the water quality of Coolidge Hill Brook to be excellent (3.2 from the Biotic Index Calculation Worksheet).  This stream is located in Diamond Point and runs parallel to Coolidge Hill Road.  The headwaters of this brook is a small pond in the wilderness directly west of Lake George and south of Wall Street.
