Coby McDonald
Class of 1990

July 21, 2011 -A resident of Queensbury, Coby owns and operates a local nursery/landscaping business on Luzerne Road in Queensbury. He is a graduate of SUNY Cobleskill, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Horticulture.

Coby has always enjoyed working with his hands, and thinking back to his days at QHS remembers how much he enjoyed wood shop class with Dave Schmidt. He said that Mr. Schmidt was very personable and made even the most basic skill such as reading a tape measure or a pair of calipers fun to learn. An independent study with Mr. Schmidt on the wood lathe was Coby's favorite class, where he was able to create decorative wood projects.

Owning his own company is a dream Coby has had since high school, and he knew that he would want it to be located in Queensbury. During college Coby had the opportunity to do an internship for a large nursery in Washington D.C. and Maryland, and while he enjoyed what those areas had to offer he said they just weren't home. "We are in the ideal location half way between Saratoga and Lake George. We are surrounded by natural beauty - the lake, Yaddo Garden and Congress Park in Saratoga, and the mountains around us. This is a great place to live."
