Queensbury Union Free School District Strategic Plan

MISSION STATEMENT:

Empower all students to be lifelong learners, inspired to pursue their dreams and to contribute to the global community.

Queensbury Union Free School District is supported by a community partnership that is strongly vested in the education of its youth. This has resulted in a tradition of excellence which will continue and be enhanced by our strategic plan. A quality education is provided to all of its students through the efforts of over 500 staff members including 280 professional educators. We will develop unique experiences for our students as we strive to achieve the mission and objectives by 2010.

Strategic Objectives by 2010:

  • Each student will continually choose and participate in activities that benefit the global community
  • Each student will continually discover and pursue his/her interests by formulating related questions, seeking information and demonstrating new understandings.
  • Each student will continually articulate and evaluate his/her dreams, develop plans and demonstrate action consistent with those dreams.

Strategy 1:
We will create a culture in which all members of our community believe and expect that every student will achieve our strategic objectives and mission.

Strategy 2:
We will continually align and develop the curricula throughout the system to ensure that all students achieve our strategic objectives and mission.

Strategy 3:
We will create, build and maintain trusting relationships among all members of our community to achieve our strategic objectives and mission.

Strategy 4:
We will actively involve the people and the resources of our community to achieve our strategic objectives and mission.

Results:

  • All members of our community are engaged in creating and supporting an environment that is aligned with and develops our core values in students.
  • A district-wide commitment to authentic and meaningful recognition fosters self-worth in each member of the school community
  • A positive, proactive communication system within the school district ensures a united effort to achieve our strategic objectives and mission
  • An effective public relations network cultivates a partnership between the community and the district

Results:

  • Use of flexible scheduling structures enhances students' educational experiences necessary to achieve the strategic objectives.
  • A clearly defined continuum of learning drives the academic growth of all students to achieve the strategic objectives.
  • Traits of lifelong learning are embedded in the curriculum to prepare students to become self-directed learners.
  • The district assess and addresses the needs and abilities of every student in order to achieve strategic objectives
  • Use of alternative learning structures enhances students' educational experiences necessary to achieve the strategic objectives.

Results:

  • A solid foundation for trust is established to achieve our objectives and mission.
  • Trust is maintained and enhanced through continuous training/activities that promote relationship building, team building and effective communication.
  • Trust and involvement are strengthened through community understanding of roles, responsibilities and expectations of all school and community members.
  • Innovation and responsible risk taking are encouraged in a trusting and supportive learning environment.

Results:

  • District programs support all students as contributors in the local and global community.
  • The diversity, experience, and skills of our community are embedded in learning opportunities for students and staff.
  • Students, families, school staff and community members grow together as lifelong learners.
  • The people and resources of our community will be integrated into the curriculum through community service learning.
  • Each student has an Individual Educational Career Plan (IECP) supported by a career counselor who is consistently available to student s and families.
