Queensbury Students Win Titles at SkillsUSA Competition
Three Queensbury High School students won titles at the State SkillsUSA competition held at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse on April 27-29. Students at the Career and Technical Education program at WSWHE BOCES, they competed against BOCES and technical school students in timed technical, trade and leadership contests.
Congratulations to Jaysen Henderson, 1st place in Photography; Michael Spoerl, 3rd place in First Aid/CPR; and William Gardener, 3rd place in Construction/HVAC/R. They competed against BOCES and technical school students from across the state for prizes and scholarship money by demonstrating hands-on skills developed through Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offered by Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES.
At every competition level, students compete hands-on in different trade, technical and leadership fields. Test competencies are set by industry and students are judged by people who work in their chosen industry. Students qualified for state level competition by winning at local and regional SkillsUSA competitions. Those who won first place at the state competition advance to the National SkillsUSA competition in Kansas City in June.
