QES 1000 BOOK CLUB
summer hours: Starting on Monday July 16th the book cart will be located in the K/1 lobby for book sign out between 7:45a.m. and 3:00p.m.
2007-2008 is our 5th year of the program!!!
Queensbury Elementary School loves to read!!!
The QES Shared Decision Making Team worked very hard to bring this wonderful reading program to Queensbury Elementary School. We have put together over 130 bags of 10 books each that parents can sign out for their children to read. The intent of the program is to provide a fun way to allow parents and children to enjoy reading together as they work toward the goal of reading 1000 books. There are program incentives for children that become “1000 Book Kids.”
In order to participate, a child must be a resident of the Queensbury School District and parents need to register their child in person at QES during our scheduled hours. By registering, a parent is able to borrow a bag containing 10 children’s books for a maximum of two weeks. When the books have all been read, the bag is returned, and parents are able to sign out another bag. This process continues until a child reaches 100 completed bags.
Please understand that between the bag and the ten books found in each bag, the cost for the school to replace a bag is close to $100. Therefore, students will not sign out the books or transport them on the school bus.
Parents (not children) must sign out the bags, and can do so every Monday through Friday from 8:40-9:10 in the K/1 lobby and 3:15-3:40 in the gym. We also provide Wednesday night hours between 6 and 7:00, and books can be signed out before or after PTSA meetings. Parent volunteers or QES staff will be present at the above times to assist with the sign-out procedures and answer any questions that you may have.
Who can participate in this program? Our target group includes age 4 pre-school thru first grade. However, the challenge of reading 1000 books can begin in Kindergarten or first grade and may continue thru second grade.
Program Incentives: All students that reach the goal of being a “1000 Book Kid” will receive a certificate and be recognized on the school announcements by the school principals. Also, their names will be added to the 1000 book club wall of fame and posted in our school. 1000 book T-shirts will be awarded to students reaching the 1000 book club goal.
If you have any further questions, please contact QES Assistant Principal Jim Conway at 824-1600.
