    Each student will discover and pursue interests by formulating related questions, seeking information & demonstrating new understandings.
    Target:
    All students will have literacy skills on or above grade level.

    Strategic Objective #3-Dreams
    Each student will articulate and evaluate his/her dreams, develop plans and demonstrate action consistent with those dreams.
    Target:
    All students will develop dream plans and make progress toward reaching their dreams each year. 

    Each of the buildings and departments have developed strategies for addressing the targets. Below is a very brief list of some of the activities each building is doing to address the targets, and in turn our strategic objectives:

    Target:
    All students will be involved with extra-curricular and service activities either in or out of school.
    ACTIVITIES:
    Elementary School
    : All classes will participate in at least one event that helps others in our local community. 
    William H. Barton Intermediate School: Students who are not participating in at least one event will be assisted through the Queensbury Recreation Department in conjunction with the school.
    Middle School and High School: Students will be surveyed to see what activities they are currently involved with and those who are not involved in any will be given assistance in a variety of ways.

    ACTIVITIES:
    Elementary School:
     Model classrooms using Readers and Writers Workshops,  junior kindergarten, uninterrupted blocks of time for ELA (70-90 minutes daily), effective use of the Diagnostic Reading Assessment to inform instruction in small groups, and increase in student attendance by offering some families additional supports from the school and community. 
    William H. Barton Intermediate School: Model classrooms using Readers and Writers Workshops, benchmark skills tests, piloting the Fountas and Pinnell assessment, improving classroom libraries, pushing academic intervention into classrooms, and positive behavior interventions 
    Middle School: Create a Literacy Council, develop content area literacies, put supports in place for students to complete homework, ensure all 8th grade students pass their foreign language proficiency exam.
    High School: Track progress of 9th grade students to reduce the number of retentions, analyze data and make curricular modifications as needed, develop common assessments within subjects for midterm exams, and offer a math lab to support students during study halls.

    Target:
    All students will develop dream plans and make progress toward reaching their dreams each year.
    ACTIVITIES:
    Elementary School:
     Dream t-shirts, writing prompts, digital portfolio for each student, technology lesson, and dream bulletin boards
    William H. Barton Intermediate School: Writing prompts, classroom discussions AND activities, art journal, and new teacher dreams featured during announcements
    Middle School: Seven down-six to go in 6th grade, text-set projects in 7th grade, and 8th grade culminating activities in career and consumer science incorporating seven down-six to go and text set projects 
    High School: Students will work closely with their guidance counselors to set career goals and make plans for achieving those goals.
