NYS to lift mask mandate in schools on Wednesday, March 2, 2022

As new communications regarding mask mandates are distributed, we want to keep you as up to date and well-informed as possible. We take the health and wellness of our Q-munity seriously, and there have been new updates to state-wide protocols that we want to address.

On Feb. 27, 2022, NY state Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the statewide mask mandate for schools will end on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. Parents and guardians may still choose to send their children to school in masks, but the state-wide mandate will be lifted.

Therefore, starting Wednesday, March 2, 2022, Queensbury Union Free School District will declare masks to be optional in Queensbury schools. Some families will want their children to continue wearing masks, and the district will support them in their decision to do so. We recognize this is a personal choice and expect such decisions will be met with mutual respect by all. Staff may choose to wear masks at their own discretion starting Wednesday, March 2, 2022.

In the next few days, Gov. Hochul will be sending out guidance, a document for Frequently Asked Questions, and more information to districts. We will share these with the community as soon as they are available.

Thank you for your perseverance throughout COVID, and your commitment to keep our Q-munity safe!
