We have been working hard to prepare for welcoming our students back, whether remote or in person, for the 2020-2021 school year. With the start of the school year upon us, we wanted to provide you with some information that will help ensure a smooth transition for your child.
K-6 students will be attending school daily. Our school hours remain 8:45-3:40.
We have adjusted our arrival and dismissal procedures and times to decrease the number of students entering and exiting the school at high-traffic times and to ensure the safety of our staff and students. Students who will be taking the bus will be receiving a postcard in the mail the first week in September with specific pick-up and drop-off times and locations.
Arrival by bus
Students who will be taking the bus to school will be dropped off in the front parking lot of our school and enter the building at the entrance designated for their grade level.
Arrival by parent drop-off
Students who will be dropped off to school will be dropped off in the back of the building. There will be designated entrances for each grade level.
Dismissal – parental pick-up
Parents who have indicated that they will be picking up their child will be receiving a pick-up pass in the mail to expedite the pick-up process. The pick-up pass will include your child’s name, parent’s name, teacher’s name, and any other names of whom the parent has indicated may pick up the child from school. If you have not received this in the mail, please call Mrs. Paquin at (518) 824-1631. Please note, these passes are intended for parents who routinely pick up their child. If you need to pick up your child on occasion, no pass is necessary–simply send in a note.
Parent pick-ups will take place in the back of the school between 2:50-3:15 p.m.
- If your child’s last name begins with letter N-Z, please arrive between 2:50 and 3 p.m.
- If your child’s last name begins with letter A-M, please arrive between 3:05 and 3:15 p.m.
- If you are picking up multiple children with different last names, please arrive during our first pick-up time.
Anyone picking up a student must be on the pre-approved pick-up list and show a government issued photo ID.
Parent drop-off and pick-up will be a contactless system. We ask that you remain in your vehicle and that your child enters/exits the vehicle curbside. When picking up your child, please keep the window rolled up and display both the pick up pass and your ID in the driver’s side window.
Dismissal – bus
Bus loading and dismissal will take place between 3:25-3:40 p.m.
Please remember that, during the first week of school, arrival and dismissal times are often very busy times. We will work hard to stick to this schedule, but would appreciate your patience and flexibility as we navigate these procedures.
Please send a note in with your child if there will be a change in dismissal or call our K/1 office at (518) 824-1631 before 12 p.m.
We will continue to use SchoolMessenger as our primary method of communication. If you are not already receiving our emails, please call our office so that we can ensure we have the correct email address for you.
SchoolTool parent portal
SchoolTool is our district’s student management system. We will be using the Parent Portal to distribute report cards each quarter. Each parent was issued a Parent Portal account at time of registration. Please visit our district website and click on “SchoolTool” in the bottom left-hand corner to log into your account. This will show the emergency contacts that you have listed for your child, along with their contact information. It is important that this information is accurate and current. Please call our office at (518) 824-1631 if you have any updates or changes.
QES student Google Classroom
We will be posting information on our QES student Google Classroom to help our students transition to the new school year. If your child is not already a member, please have him/her go to classroom.google.com and log into their Queensbury School account. (If your child forgot his/her username or password, this information can be found under the User Defined tab on the SchoolTool Parent Portal.) Our QES student Google Classroom Code is xmcetls.
Our Queensbury website has a lot of information for families. You can also find our District Reopening Plan and FAQ on the website.
Please find the school supply lists on our website. If your child is in need of school supplies, please call (518) 824-1631.
Preparing our QES learners for the upcoming school year
Please know we recognize that returning to school will be with many mixed emotions for our students. Our team of teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff are here to help. You can assist us by talking to your child about what to expect when they come to school. Some talking points may include:
- Students will get to see the QES superheroes including the new superhero, Wellness Warrior
- All students and staff coming to campus will be wearing cool masks to stay safe throughout the day
- Please practice putting masks on and taking them off properly
- Students can expect to sit at a desk and have their own space to work at in school
- All staff and students will be practicing hand washing frequently
We look forward to seeing your child on Sept. 8! Thanks in advance for your partnership. We know the 2020-2021 will be a memorable school year!
