Over the last week, students from Queensbury Middle School have been participating in a Holiday Shoppe located in the media center. Members of the local Queensbury community donate items, and middle school teachers volunteer their time to run the store.
Even retired teachers come back to the district to show their support for this truly unique holiday event.
The Holiday Shoppe gives students the autonomy to buy gifts for their family without having to spend a lot of money or venture out to stores. Students are taught about budgeting their money, how to put an item on lay-a-way and other important life skills.
Two groups of students are also heavily involved in the planning and implementing of the Holiday Shoppe. PAWS, a club that makes dog and cat treats, sells items at the Holiday Shoppe and donates their proceeds to local shelters.
The QMS Ambassadors, a group of student leaders, gave their time to the Holiday Shoppe to help students wrap their presents. It has been a wonderful, successful event that truly involves the whole QMS community.
