Throughout the month of October, the Queensbury Middle School Student Council and PLUSS club (Patience, Love, Understanding, and Support for Students) partnered to organize a ‘Socktober’ fundraising event.
Their partnership led to over 1,300 pairs of socks donated by Queensbury Middle School students and families in the month of October alone.
The socks will be donated to the WAIT house in Glens Falls, House of Precise in Albany, and QUFSD’s own Kindness Closet, a community resource for QMS families in need that provides donated clothing and hygiene products for free to students.
Last year, the 7th grade PLUSS club met to define their goals for the upcoming school year, and decided to partner to help homeless shelter youth. In talking to local organizations, new socks were one of the most repeated requested item. This year, the PLUSS club and QMS Student Council met with QMS Principal Michael Brannigan to partner and create this fundraising event.
