QES raises $4,151 to benefit the greater community
March 7, 2019
Queensbury Elementary classes participated in a five-day spirit week in support of the South High Marathon Dance in South Glens Falls during the last week in February. Blue/red day, crazy hair/hat day and flannel Friday were all part of the fun. The week ended with a mini-marathon on March 1, with more than 200 students in grades K-3 participating. $4,151 was collected and donated to the South High Marathon Dance.
“Seeing so many of our students participate in this amazing event was inspiring,” said QES Principal Jessica Rossetti. “Some people in our Queensbury community will be beneficiaries of the money raised, so the cause was already near and dear to our hearts. It just seemed natural for us to participate this year in our own small way.”
DJ Aaron Coulson volunteered his time and talent to provide music and emcee the event for students, and QES parent Danielle Goertzen helped organize the mini-marathon fundraiser. Goertzen has three students in Queensbury schools and is also a South High graduate.
“I can’t begin to express my heartfelt thanks for all of the support and work that went into putting together this dance,” said Goertzen. “Being able to give the kids a glimpse of the incredible feeling of being part of something bigger than themselves will hopefully carry forward. Thank you to all of the teachers who donated their time and energy for this cause; it made all the difference.”
The money raised will benefit 39 recipients, both individuals and organizations from South Glens Falls and neighboring areas.
