Tonight voters in Queensbury Union Free School District passed a $62,831,747 budget proposal for the 2017-18 school year by a vote of 829 to 246. The proposed budget maintains current programs and services for students, but includes the reduction of five staff positions next year through attrition.
“It was great to see so many of our residents come out. I’m grateful for the confidence our community places in their schools,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Douglas W. Huntley after the vote.
By a vote of 853 to 221, voters passed a $700,000 proposition to purchase two 42-passenger buses and four 72-passenger buses. The new buses will replace six older buses and maintain a 10-year replacement cycle.
Voters also elected candidates to fill three seats on the Queensbury Board of Education.
Filling one of the two seats for full five-year terms are incumbents Patricia Belden (847 votes) and Daniel Mannix, Esq. (883 votes).
Filling the one seat for a partial one-year term is new member Amy Molloy (831 votes).
