Two School Resource Officers join Queensbury’s campus
Oct. 1, 2018
School safety is the top priority for QUFSD. There are many components to a school safety plan, a plan that thel district remains actively engaged in throughout the year. With the start of the 2018-19 school year, two new School Resource Officers (SRO’s) joined the campus community.
SRO Thomas Murphy, who will be shared between QHS and WHBI, is a former New York City Police Department Detective, as well as a Deputy Sheriff for the Routt County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado. Mr. Murphy is currently an emergency medical technician for the Town of Wilton EMS. SRO John Marchello, who will be shared between QES and QMS, recently retired after serving 21 years in the New York City Police Department. In addition, due to Steve McKinney’s retirement, Robert Maynard has been hired as the new School Security Monitor. Mr. Maynard retired after 35 years of service with the NYS Dept. of Corrections and Community Supervision and also served 20 years in the military reserves.
"Our two new School Resource Officers come to us highly trained and with extensive experience. They have quickly become an integral part of our safety plan," said Superintendent Dr. Douglas Huntley. "They have been warmly received by faculty, staff and especially students. It is wonderful to see them in classrooms sharing their experiences with students, as well as in lunch rooms sharing a meal with students."
