Nationwide email hoax

Dec. 13, 2018

At dismissal time on Dec. 13, the Queensbury Union Free School District received an electronic bomb threat sent via email. The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Queensbury was immediately contacted by the district, who in turn contacted the New York State Police Counter Terrorism Intelligence Unit. Threats identical to the one QUFSD received were also received by businesses, universities, and schools throughout New York City and the country, according to the New York State Police and the NYPD Counter Terrorism Unit. Police determined the threats are not credible and part of a nationwide fraudulent email hoax.

As an extra precaution, our school district had a strong New York State Police presence at strategic locations in and around the campus buildings at dismissal. The district’s School Resource Officers were also present and aided in this effort.

As always, safety is our number one priority and we encourage our families to always remain vigilant. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the district office at 518-824-5602.
