March 20 Update from Superintendent Gannon
Dear Queensbury community,
I want to thank you again for your support and flexibility during this unprecedented and challenging time for schools and communities across the nation. As we navigate through the impact of COVID-19, QUFSD remains committed to supporting our students, staff and families.
I would also like to acknowledge our team members who are working tirelessly to serve and safeguard our school community. Thank you to our food service workers who are ensuring our families are fed; to our custodial staff who are keeping our buildings safe and sanitized; to our administrators and teachers who are keeping our students learning; and our Board of Education who continually support and guide our district.
This week, our students and staff collaborated virtually and I’m proud of each person’s effort. Thousands of students accessed Google Classrooms to connect with teachers; used Google Meet to collaborate with their peers and worked together as one school community.
Over these next few weeks, please keep sharing your smiles, daily routines and good news. As we social-distance ourselves, let’s be sure to stay connected! Please continue to check our website for updates.
Below, please see some important updates as we close out week one of our extended closing:
Starting Monday, March 23, the meal distribution schedule will change slightly. Breakfast and lunch will continue to be available, free of charge, for students in need while QUFSD schools are closed.
Here is the revised schedule:
- Mondays: Breakfast and lunch (along with Tuesday’s breakfast)
- Tuesdays-Thursdays: Lunch (along with the following day’s breakfast)
- Fridays*: Lunch
*Additional pantry items will be available for families on Friday, April 3. Please bring a reusable bag, backpack or box if you would like to collect these items as well.
If your student plans on participating and they have dietary restrictions, please email Josh Hodge at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Campus Facilities Closed
Based on guidance from Governor Cuomo, all campus buildings will be closed Monday, March 23 until further notice. The only exceptions are the QMS kitchen/cafeteria, which will be open to allow food service employees to prepare meals for families, and the transportation office, which will be open for drivers to access buses to transport the meals. We will still operate the drive thru food pickup at QMS as planned.
Chromebook Technical Issues
If you are encountering technical issues with your child’s Chromebook please follow the steps below:
- Email email@example.com
- A technician will respond to you and provide assistance
Counseling Center Resources
The counseling center created a Google site as an academic and wellness resource that includes mindfulness and self-care strategies for students and their families. Students are encouraged to reach out to their counselor at any time throughout the school closing. Counselors are receiving all phone messages via email and will respond during the school day.
Board Meeting on Monday, March 23
Following Governor Cuomo’s guidelines, this meeting will not be open to public attendance. A livestream link will be posted on the district homepage on Monday morning.
I have never been more proud to be a Spartan.
Kyle L. Gannon
