QHS Open House & Freshman Parent Night

September 24, 2018

Dear Families,

Want an easy way to support your teen’s success at school? Please join us at the Queensbury High School Open House and Freshman Parent/Family Night this Thursday, Sept. 27.

Parking

With the Legacy 2020 Capital Project well underway, changes have been made this year to campus traffic flow and QHS parking lot designations. Parking for parents will be available in the Blue Gym back parking lot, which is being used as our main entrance this year. Please plan to arrive early to access parking closest to this entrance. Overflow parking will be available in the front student parking lot, near the media center entrance.

Freshman Parent/Family Night starts at 5:45 p.m. in the QHS Blue Gym, one hour prior to Open House. Get valuable information on high school academic programs, physical education offerings, different pathways to graduation and graduation planning. The administrative team and school counselors will also review expectations for a successful school year.

QHS Open House, an event for parents and guardians, begins at 6:45 p.m. Parents will report directly to their child’s Period 1 (A-Day) class and receive a student schedule to follow a shortened version of the school day. Come meet your child’s teachers and learn more about high school academic programs and extracurricular activities.

College and Career Exploration Day is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 10, a great opportunity for your teen to prepare for the future!

  • Freshmen: All 9th graders will participate in a daylong visit to a college campus. Signed permission slips must be returned to Homeroom teachers.
  • Sophomores & Juniors: All 10th and 11th grade students will take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT). The PSAT exam is a “mini version” of the real SAT examination, and it provides students with direct experience with the specific testing format and time management techniques. The SAT is one of the two college admissions examinations required by many colleges as part of the admissions process.
  • Seniors: All 12th grade students will attend college preparatory seminars throughout the day and must sign-up in advance.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you this Thursday!
