Three Queensbury UFSD Orchestras participated in the NYSSMA Major Organization festival at Saratoga Springs High School on April 17 and 18, 2019. All three orchestras received Gold With Distinction ratings. This is a rare, and high honor only reserved for groups achieving a standard of performance deemed exceptional.
The Middle School 7th grade orchestra performed at a NYSSMA Level 2, the Middle School Chamber Orchestra performed at a level 3 and the High School Chamber Ensemble performed at the most difficult level of ability, NYSSMA Level 6. This is the second year in a row that the 7th grader students and High School Chamber Ensemble received Gold with Distinction.
The judges were most impressed with each group’s overall musicality, sensitivity, attention to fine detail and well-chosen, appropriate literature.
The 7th Grade Orchestra is directed by WHBI/QMS String teacher, Alyssa Verheyn and the Middle School Chamber Orchestra and High School Chamber Ensemble is directed by HS String teacher, Gregory Verheyn.
This is the first time in Queensbury orchestra history that three orchestras have all earned this outstanding rating. We are proud of our students’ dedication and commitment to excellence. We are grateful that our community and school district supports our program. We hope that the results of this experience pave the way for continued success and growth of our program.
