Two candidates seeking seats on the Board of Education

On Tuesday, June 9, voters will elect two candidates to fill two seats on the Queensbury Board of Education. Each seat is for a full five-year term.

Francis F. Cabana Jr. is a retired 30-year veteran teacher for Queensbury schools. He currently manages Pirates’ Cove Mini Golf Courses. He is seeking his first term on the Queensbury Board of Education.

He is a Eucharistic minister and lecturer at Our Lady of the Annunciation as well as a commissioner on the Town of Queensbury Recreation Commission. Cabana earned a bachelor’s degree from Springfield College.

Cabana and his wife, Ellen, have lived in Queensbury for 40 years and have nine children, all QUFSD alums.

Joe Scriver is a member service leader/branch manager for SEFCU. He is seeking his second term on the Queensbury Board of Education.

Scriver has spent several years as an adjunct instructor for the SUNY Adirondack Business Division and is a past advisory board member. He was also founding president of the Fort Edward/Hudson Falls/Kingsbury Kiwanis Club; a board member for the Adirondack-Saratoga Chapter of the American Red Cross and Saratoga PLAN; director of St. Francis Homes and Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce; and Junior Achievement steering committee member. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Siena College.

Scriver and his wife, Karen, have lived in Queensbury for 18 years, and have three daughters, Christine, Lauren and Rebecca, all QUFSD alums.
