Update from Superintendent Gannon (April 16)

Dear Families,

As we near the end of week five of being apart, I just want to say again, that I am so proud of how our students, families and staff have handled the COVID-19 situation during this time.

Earlier today, Governor Cuomo extended our closure and announced that schools will be closed through May 15. We will continue to instruct, support and ensure our students are provided meals through this time.

Third quarter grades

As a reminder, third quarter grades for K-12 students will be posted in the SchoolTool Portal on April 24. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or guidance counselor.

June SATs canceled

To keep students safe, and in alignment with public health guidance and school closures across 192 countries, the College Board has announced it will not be able to administer the SAT or SAT Subject Tests on June 6, 2020. More information will be provided when it becomes available.

I know the question remains if we will be returning to school this year. The decision to return to school will be made by the governor’s office. We will continue to follow federal, state and county public health guidelines relating to the pandemic. If we return, we will have plans in place to best integrate our students and staff members back at school, while following any executive orders related to the reopening. The health of our students and staff members is always our top priority.

Next week, we are planning for another fun spirit day, so stay tuned. We’ll announce the details on Wednesday, April 22 on our social media feeds.

As always, I’m proud to be a Spartan,

Kyle L. Gannon
Superintendent of Schools
