Queensbury Elementary School officially opened its two new playgrounds during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, Aug. 25. More than 50 QES students attended the event, eager to be the first to climb on the new equipment.
“Playgrounds bring kids together,” said Principal Jessica Rossetti. “Boys and girls, we’re excited to see you play together. Take care and respect our playground and enjoy making new friendships.”
These playgrounds — designed with student health, safety, accessibility and inclusive play in mind — are part of a broader renovation plan to modernize Queensbury Elementary School and enhance the overall learning environment on campus.
On Dec. 12, 2023, Queensbury Union Free School District voters approved a $39 million capital improvement project titled, “Success for our Future.”
The project also included construction of two new QES playgrounds — one for UPK and kindergarten students and a second for students in grades 1-3. The relocation of the old playground has allowed for construction of a new access road and the reconfiguration of the parking lot in front of QES to alleviate traffic congestion on campus.
Superintendent of Schools Kyle Gannon invited some students to help cut the blue and gold ribbons. He thanked the Queensbury community for supporting the district’s capital project.
“Today’s a great, exciting day to be a QES kid,” said Board of Education President Tim Weaver. “It’s a beautiful playground. The kids are very lucky, and hopefully, they’re going to get a lot of good use out of this.”
