The Queensbury Union Free School District Board of Education intends to appoint John Martin as the new director of physical education, health and athletics.

Martin is currently an assistant principal at Queensbury High School, where he previously served as a physical education teacher and strength and conditioning coach.

Martin received his Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from Salisbury University in 2012 and his Master of Science degree in sports management and administration from the United States Sports Academy in 2014. He received his school building leader certification and school district leader certification from SUNY Plattsburgh in 2021.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to continue to work with our students and staff here at Queensbury in this new capacity, specifically now moving into the role of director of physical education, health and athletics with our physical education staff, coaches, community members and student athletes here at Queensbury,” Martin said.

Martin previously served as the director of the National High School Strength Coaches Association and was named the NHSSCA Regional Coach of the Year in 2024 in recognition of his coaching achievements and passion for the profession.

“John’s background in physical education and athletics coupled with his administration experience makes him the perfect candidate for this position,” said Superintendent of Schools Kyle Gannon. “He is enthusiastic, eager, and thoroughly versed in our athletics program. I am confident he will do a great job as our next athletic director.”

Martin lives in Wilton with his wife, Jamie, and son, Ryker, and daughters, Kealy and Capri. He will replace Richard Keys, who is retiring after 20 years as an administrator at Queensbury UFSD. Martin will take on his new role on July 31.
