Flyer about upcoming webinar about avoiding or refusing to go to school.

Approximately one in five children in this country has a diagnosable anxiety disorder. Anxiety can show up in so many different ways, from anger and behavioral challenges, to avoidance and perfectionism.

When a child is experiencing a high level of anxiety, they may complain of various physical symptoms to avoid school, or even outright refuse to go to school. This is extremely stressful to the entire family, often leading to chaotic and tearful mornings.

Dr. Jennifer Bashant will offer a virtual workshop to discuss, “Help! My Child is Avoiding or Refusing to go to School,” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22.

During this webinar, you will learn how to engage with your child and with the school to reduce the anxiety your child feels about attending school.

“When anxiety gets in the way of school success, connection and understanding can make all the difference,” said Christine Delaney, director of social and emotional learning and UPK. “This webinar provides families with compassionate strategies to help their children feel safe and supported.”
