Local contractors and tradespeople will be giving Queensbury middle and high schoolers some hands-on training at the end of September.
Queensbury Union Free School District will host a Career & Technical Education Day from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29 right on Queensbury’s campus. The event will allow businesses to showcase their industries, share expertise and ignite students’ passion for hands-on careers.
“We’re excited to offer our students this unique Career and Technical Education experience,” said Superintendent of Schools Kyle Gannon. “This fulfills our vision of introducing students to career-focused learning and hands-on training as early as possible.”
All seventh grade students as well as more than 200 high schoolers will be exposed to auto mechanics, sheetrocking, plumbing, graphic design, heavy equipment, HVAC, horticulture, culinary, flooring, roofing, information technology, siding and window installation, woodworking, accounting and bookkeeping, pipe fitting, nursing, machinery and more.
The event, which will be held at the Transportation Department, will take place rain or shine.
