Queensbury High School senior International Baccalaureate English students spent the afternoon on Wednesday, Dec. 3 in roundtable discussions with local veterans from the Saratoga County Veterans Peer Connection Program. This event marked the culmination of a study of Tim O'Brien's novel about the Vietnam War, “The Things They Carried.”
The day concluded with a presentation of Quilts of Honor from the Hudson River Piecemakers Quilt Guild.
This partnership began about 10 years ago in a class discussion about the challenges soldiers might face when returning to civilian life, said English teacher Kerri Bundy.
“The students came up with the idea of bearing witness to the stories of our own local veterans, and Queensbury IB English students have been listening ever since,” Bundy said. “It continues to be a great honor to listen to these first person accounts of service and quiet heroism.”
