Fifth-graders at the William H. Barton Intermediate School portrayed different people from history during the second annual living Wax Museum on Friday, Jan. 30.
Students from four fifth-grade classrooms researched people throughout history, then dressed up and stood in character as wax figures. Students delivered a brief speech when visitors pressed an imaginary button on the wall next to them.
The project is part of the fifth-grade nonfiction unit. Students picked people who have changed the world. They then defended their choice with trusted sources.
“I always have a lot of kids who are trying to get some of the top athletes, but I’m always impressed with the kids who pick somebody that they don’t really know a lot about,” said teacher Caroline Conboy, “and I always encourage them to pick somebody they don’t know a lot about so they can learn about them and then become an expert and deliver that to the rest of the school.”
Alexa Thomson stood in a Patriots jersey with a football tucked under her right arm as she portrayed former NFL quarterback Tom Brady.
“The Patriots are my favorite NFL team, and they’re going to win the Superbowl,” she said confidently.
