Queensbury Union Free School District will host the first annual Unity Games, an inclusive and spirited event presented by the district’s Youth Activation Committee (YAC). Special education classes are invited to participate in this exciting new tradition, which will take place on Wednesday, May 20.
High school students will participate from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. while elementary students will join the fun from noon to 2 p.m.
The Unity Games aim to celebrate teamwork, kindness and inclusion across the school community. The day will begin with a parade of athletes followed by 10 fun and engaging events, including a single lap race, 50-yard dash, long jump, frisbee throw, softball throw, soccer kick, hurdles, trike race, basket toss and obstacle course.
General education classes are also invited to attend and cheer on participants, creating an uplifting atmosphere of encouragement and school pride. The event offers an opportunity for students and staff throughout the district to come together in support.
The Unity Games were thoughtfully planned and organized by the Youth Activation Committee, a group of students with and without intellectual disabilities.
“We are very excited for our first annual Unity Games,” said event organizer and teacher Lisa Higley. “We are looking forward to a fun day that encourages everyone in our district — faculty and students — to come together to celebrate these students.”
