The Queensbury Union Free School District’s Unity Games event has been honored with a Champions of Change award from the New York State School Boards Association.
The district held its first-ever Unity Games on May 20, 2026, celebrating teamwork, inclusion and school spirit. Both special and general education classes came together to participate in the exciting new tradition. High school students participated in the morning while elementary students joined the fun in the afternoon.
“NYSSBA is dedicated to recognizing and promoting the positive work taking place in schools across the state,” said Barry J. Entwistle, chief member relations and business development officer for NYSSBA. “Please extend our congratulations to your Board of Education, staff, and students for their role in creating a positive district culture others may admire and emulate.”
Planned by the Youth Activation Committee, the day began with a parade of athletes followed by 10 fun and engaging events, including a single lap race, 50-yard dash, long jump, frisbee throw, softball throw, soccer kick, hurdles, trike race, basket toss and obstacle course.
“It was a great day and a great event for everyone involved,” said Superintendent of Schools Kyle Gannon. “We look forward to doing it again this year.”
