Hold onto your dictionaries folks!

WHBI Spelling Bee Champion Gabriel Sovay has spelled his way into the spotlight again!

Gabe buzzed past the competition at the 45th Regional WSWHE BOCES Spelling Bee on Tuesday night, taking on 14 top-tier spellers from 14 different school districts and walked away with first place. This fifth grade word wizard went head-to-head — or should we say letter-to-letter — with middle schoolers and emerged victorious.

The final word that won him the crown was “quagmire.”

“We’re so proud of Gabe and his incredible achievement,” said WHBI teacher Lisa Patton. “His brain is basically a walking dictionary and we can’t wait to see what word he conquers next. Merriam-Webster, watch out! Gabriel Sovay is coming for you!”
