Project Lead The Way

Project Lead the Way offers research-supported, age-appropriate lessons and full-year courses in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science. The program is at all four Queensbury school buildings, with students at every level exploring, discovering, creating and building 21st century skills.

Queensbury Elementary School and William H. Barton Intermediate School

Students in grades K-5 complete two Project Lead the Way launch modules at each grade level.

Queensbury Middle School

Sixth-graders will complete a Project Lead the Way gateway module in medical detectives as an introduction to biomedical sciences.

Eighth-graders at Queensbury Middle School complete a Project Lead the Way gateway module in design and modeling as part of their technology classes. The module helps students prepare for the P-TECH program, in which they can enroll at the end of eighth grade.

Queensbury High School

Queensbury High School offers courses from the Project Lead the Way engineering pre-engineering program.

In PLTW, a comprehensive science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, creativity, innovation and real-world problem solving. Its goal is to increase the number of students who pursue engineering and engineering technology programs in college. The hands-on, project-based program engages students on multiple levels, exposes them to subjects they typically would not pursue, provides them with a strong foundation for achieving their academic goals, and establishes a proven path to college and career success in STEM-related industries.

At QHS, the PLTW program includes five foundation courses:

  • Engineering Essentials (EE)

  • Computer Science Principles (CSP)

  • Design and Drawing for Production (DDP/PLTW)

  • Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM)

  • Principles of Engineering (POE)

  • Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA)

  • Engineering Design & Development (EDD)

These courses are included in the high school P-TECH program.

Queensbury students have the opportunity to earn college credit from the Rochester Institute of Technology for each PLTW course based on the results of a PLTW exam and the final average for a course. If a student qualifies, there is a registration process and fee to earn college credit through RIT.
