People gather around a blue bus.

The Queensbury Union Free School District is hitting the road again this summer with its Q-munity Bus, bringing learning, laughter and lunch directly to neighborhoods across Queensbury.

Designed to engage students during the break, the mobile outreach initiative will offer STEM activities, interactive games, prizes and free food.

The first stop will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 at the Hudson Pointe Nature Preserve on Hudson Pointe Blvd. in Queensbury. QUFSD administrators will be grilling and serving free hot dogs and hamburgers and offering popsicles for dessert.

Visitors are welcome to join the nature-themed event, which will feature hula hoops, corn hole, a guided nature walk, scavenger hunt, pickleball and a bug house.

“This will be our third summer using the Q-munity Bus to engage students with these neighborhood visits,” said Superintendent of Schools Kyle Gannon. “We love being able to offer our students and families a chance to interact with administrators, have lunch and enjoy the bus during the summertime.”

The repurposed school bus is equipped with state-of-the-art furnishings, white boards with dry erase markers, OSMO tablets that merge tactile exploration with innovative technology, and hands-on learning materials for number and math learning. The bus also has Wi-Fi, a TV with an HDMI cable, a Chromebook, a microphone and surround sound system, Ozobots, Spheros, screenless coding activities called Indie Cars, giant Jenga, and arts and crafts.

By turning a school bus into a vibrant mobile classroom, the district aims to keep students curious and connected throughout the summer months. Families are encouraged to stop by and join the fun as the Q-munity Bus rolls into a neighborhood near them.
