Queensbury Middle School Principal Nick McPartland will be named a Baseball Legend by SUNY Cortland.
McPartland is a 2006 graduate of SUNY Cortland, where he pitched for the Red Dragons from 2003-2006. He was a member of the championship team in 2005 and allowed just one earned run that season.
The Cortland Baseball Legends program honors the standout members of the program’s highly successful and revered history, according to the school’s website. Inductees must be graduates of the college and at least a two-year member of the team. Also, players must be at least five years removed from when they stopped playing.
McPartland will become a legend during the annual Cortland Baseball Alumni Weekend, taking place Sept. 26-28. Head Coach Joe Brown has organized a full weekend of events for Red Dragons to reconnect, reminisce and recognize those among their cohort who have distinguished themselves since their time at SUNY Cortland.
McPartland became QMS principal in July 2023. Before that he was the director of athletics, health and physical education for the Saratoga Springs City School District and South Glens Falls Central School District.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s in health education from SUNY Cortland.
“Cortland baseball taught me so much about what it means to be a great teammate and a leader,” McPartland said. “I feel very lucky to be associated with this program in this way, as I had an amazing experience at SUNY Cortland. Getting to compete for a national championship with guys that continue to be the closest people in my life are things that have left me indebted to the program. Go Red Dragons!”
