The Queensbury Union Free School District Board of Education intends to appoint Wendy Caruso to the position of Queensbury Elementary School principal.

Caruso has served six years as an assistant principal in New York City. Before that, she worked as an instructional technology coach and a classroom teacher.

She has a bachelor’s degree in Latin American studies and Spanish liberal arts from SUNY New Paltz as well as a master’s degree in bilingual childhood education from Hunter College. She also received certificates of advanced study in school leadership from the College of St. Rose Center for Integrated Teacher Education. Caruso is a bilingual Spanish speaker.

“I am excited to get to know the teachers, staff, students and families at Queensbury Elementary School,” Caruso said. “I am ready to build upon the strong culture, and I have been amazed throughout the interview process as to the strong sense of community at QES. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone soon.”

Caruso’s duties will include supervising the assistant principal, teachers, staff and paraprofessionals as well as the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes. She will act as a liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life.

“We are thrilled to welcome Wendy to Queensbury Union Free School District and to upstate New York,” said Superintendent Kyle Gannon. “I am confident her history of strong leadership, diverse experiences and fresh perspectives will be a tremendous asset to Queensbury Elementary School.”

Caruso will replace Principal Jessica Rossetti, who is leaving the district to become the superintendent of Whitehall Central Schools.

Caruso will be relocating to the area from Bethpage on Long Island with her husband, Jared, and son, Wesley. She will start July 1.
