Students listen to information about school budgets.

Queensbury High School seniors learned about their school budget during an information session held Tuesday, April 29. The presentation was led by seniors Andrew Murray and Mark Huffaker, who have served as student liaisons on the Queensbury Board of Education this year. Joining them were Superintendent of Schools Kyle Gannon, QHS Principal Andrew Snide and Assistant Superintendent for Business Scott Whittemore.

Students over the age of 18 are being encouraged to vote on the school budget between 10 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20. Voting will take place in the Queensbury Room at the high school. Students learned how tax money is used in the school district and how a contingency budget could affect their school. They also learned about voting for school board candidates.

“It’s a good habit for you to understand school budgets. They’re going to be impacting you whether you own a home, whether you rent a home,” Whittemore said. “So it’s good to understand where the money is coming from and where it’s going.”
