Queensbury Elementary School is inviting students to attend a special Ribbon Cutting Ceremony celebrating the grand opening of its two brand-new elementary school playgrounds.
The event will take place at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 25 at Queensbury Elementary School, 431 Aviation Road, Queensbury.
After the ribbon is cut, students will have an opportunity to be among the first to enjoy the new playground equipment.
These playgrounds — designed with student health, safety, accessibility and inclusive play in mind — are part of a broader renovation initiative to modernize the elementary school and enhance the overall learning environment on campus.
On Dec. 12, 2023, Queensbury Union Free School District voters approved a $39 million capital improvement project titled, “Success for our Future.” The project will completely overhaul the Queensbury Elementary School, which opened in 1969.
The project also included construction of two new QES playgrounds — one for UPK and kindergarten students and a second for students in grades 1-3. The relocation of the old playground has allowed for construction of a new access road and the reconfiguration of the parking lot in front of QES to alleviate traffic congestion on campus.
This event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the school community and the new spaces designed to support play, creativity and healthy activity.
