Queensbury freshman Wesley Fuller and junior Liam Meilhede were the top two finishers at the Feb. 24 NYSPHSAA boys slalom competition to cap off two exceptional days on the slopes.
In addition to becoming the fourth Spartan to win a New York State slalom championship, Fuller is the fifth Queensbury alpine skier to be crowned a combined state champion.
Fuller posted the fastest times on both his first (49.17 seconds) and second (52.76) runs for a combined 1:41.93. He joined Ben Rapple (2004), Hunter Montgomery (three times: 2018, 2019 and 2020) and Hudson Montgomery (2024) as the only QHS skiers to claim a state slalom title.
Fuller was also added to the program’s combined state champion chart, which includes Rapple (2004), Alex Hohman (2015), Hunter Montgomery (twice: 2019 and 2020) and Hudson Montgomery (2024).
Meilhede earned runner-up status with a combined time of 1:46.31. His initial effort (51.76) was fourth-best, and 54.55 clock reading after the second run ranked third.
