More than 120 seniors arrived just before the break of dawn on Tuesday, Sept. 8 for the traditional Senior Sunrise, kicking off a fantastic first day of school at Queensbury Union Free School District. Once the sun was up, the rest of the high school students joined them inside the school for the start of the 2026-27 school year.

Queensbury Middle Schoolers stood in groups in front of their building as they waited for the first bell to ring, and their classmates stepped off the school buses behind the school.

WHBI Principal Amanda Denno tugged on the rope that rings the bell to signify the start of the new school year at the William H. Barton Intermediate School. School counselor Jason Blackman high-fived the third, fourth and fifth graders as they entered the building with bright smiles.

At Queensbury Elementary School, first grader Laily Murphy said she was looking forward to the new school year and her chance to head down the big slide on the elementary school playground.

ā€œThe first day of school is just magical,ā€ said Superintendent of Schools Kyle Gannon.
