Queensbury Elementary School celebrated Veterans Day during two ceremonies on Friday, Nov. 6. Students invited veterans to visit the school and share stories with students.
“We can think of the military as one big team of brave helpers,” Principal Wendy Caruso told students. “Our military branches work together to keep our whole country safe the same way our local heroes keep our school and our town safe. They work as a team to keep everyone safe, protected and free.”
Students asked veterans questions about their deployments and jobs in the military. They also asked about the difference between volunteering and being drafted. The students sang and clapped to songs from each branch of the military and then performed songs for the veterans.
Caruso talked about her niece Cambria Bond, an airman in the U.S. Air Force.
“She reminds me of something very important — that women also serve in big, important roles in our military every single day,” Caruso said. “So when you grow up, no matter who you are, boys and girls from every background, you can serve in the military, too, if you want to help others and keep the world a safe place.”
